Master of Accounting

Career Opportunities

The William & Mary Master of Accounting Program prepares you for successful entry into the world of employment. The William & Mary MAcc Program is unique because of its outstanding graduate placement record (approximately 100% for all classes), enhanced by longstanding relationships with many of the nation’s top companies and firms.

To help students prepare for the job search, a number of resources are provided. Each student will receive a written Job Search Guide to prepare them for all the steps of the job search process. At the start of the academic year, each student will receive individualized resume and cover letter assistance. The MBA Office of Career Services assists students by conducting workshops on such topics as job search strategies, interviewing skills and networking techniques. They also benefit from mock interviews conducted by industry recruiters. During October, The Wayne F. Gibbs Accounting Society, in conjunction with the CAREER CENTER, brings to campus the top national, regional and local accounting firms for presentations and on-campus interviews.

While MAcc students are not expected to have full-time work experience between their undergraduate and graduate degrees, we highly recommend that students enrolling in the MAcc Program secure an internship in the field of accounting if at all possible. An opportunity to learn first-hand about the realities of accounting after the junior or senior year greatly enriches the learning experience in the MAcc Program.

Jennifer Schwerdtfeger, W&M MAcc 2006

"Sometimes, I think I want to work at a public accounting firm or for a large corporation. Other times, I think about starting my own business or even pursuing a career in government. In fact, I may decide to dabble in all of these areas. The bottom line is that every organization needs an accountant, and earning a MAcc degree is the best place to start no matter where the path takes me."
